Generative AI
City St George’s position on the use of generative AI
Whilst the use of generative AI is not prohibited, it is important that AI is not used to falsely pass off academic work generated by AI as your own work.
Where generative AI is used to enhance learning, we expect you to use these tools in an ethical and responsible way. For example, used responsibly, generative AI tools could support effective study strategies.
Learning to use AI, understanding its strengths and weaknesses, may also become a useful employability skill and you may find some modules will embed the use of AI into assessments and other activities.
Using AI for assessment
When it comes to using AI as part of an assessment, you must follow your module tutor’s guidance on permitted uses.
Using AI to support your studies
Generative AI may be used to support your learning, for example to learn skills and knowledge related to the course content and to prepare for assessments. You may find it useful to use AI to clarify key concepts or understanding, or to ask you questions based on your revision notes. However, you will need to review carefully the response and not use this as a replacement from the resources supplied by your module tutor.
